Re. Microsoft translation memories, the Language Portal and the MSDN/Technet subscriptions let you check translation data of the user interface but not of any "user assistance" material; however, source and target documentation text can be easily looked up, see my post for the Microsoft Language Portal blog, Multilingual documentation: English and localized Help.

Very informative article! I am just curious as where could I buy this software: I have been to their site and did not find any information regarding Transit NXT Freelance Pro download or purchase. Does anybody have any idea? Also, If it is really possible to rent Transit NXT Freelance Pro, where do I go in order to do so?

Any information would be immensely appreciated.

Very good and thorough review. Star Transit has always had a very good reputation and I like their document centric TM approach. The cost and failings are what count against it. Also missing seems to be support for the most important Open Standards as provided by the OASIS OAXAL (Open Architecture for XML Authoring and Localization) reference architecture.

The screening of associate members who have every right to take ATA tests is a clumsy device to cover up the shocking difference in fail rates between Spanish and all other languages. The same sort of maneuvering kept associate members from being listed online until Radovan Pletka had the courage to hire an attorney who promised to bring the matter to court. Policy changed in an eyeblink. In both cases newcomers and freelancers were put at a competitive disadvantage, rights be hanged. The details are all online at the Freelance Party website.

I want to start learning CAT tools for translation and to start developing my professional translation experience and profile. I guess the fact that TransMug exists means that it’s possible to do these things on an Apple? I’d like to get away from PC. Any comments or suggestions?
